Excerpt from The Balance Finder

Oh no! Cindy’s life is falling apart. No matter how much she yells, her children are not getting dressed fast enough. In fact, Joah, her five-year old son, is watching TV, knowing he is supposed to be eating his oatmeal. To make matters worse, her nine-year old daughter, Bri is dancing around the living room and she is not even dressed. Devon, who is the oldest, is playing video games even though he is supposed to be brushing his teeth. Cindy has 45 minutes to take the children to school and make it to work on time.

She looks at her planner only to find she has meetings all day and will have to eat her lunch walking from one meeting to the next. Not to mention, both Joah and Bri have soccer games this evening and their uniforms are still dirty. Devon has a chess club meeting and will have no ride home because Cindy has to be at two soccer games. As if that is not enough, she suddenly remembers that their father is working late. As she rushes to get her day in order, Cindy holds back the tears and wonders why she cannot seem to get it together. If only she had some supernatural intervention to add time to this full day. If only she were Superwoman.

How many times have you felt like there are not enough hours in a day? Leaping tall buildings in one single bound is seemingly impossible with only twenty-four hours to spare. Especially, if you need at least eight hours to sleep. What’s a woman to do? Look at the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superwoman! No silly lady, Superwoman is for girls! You, my friend, are a Christian woman. So, what’s the difference?

- A superwoman operates in her own strength, while a Christian woman operates in divine strength.

- A superwoman lives a double life, while a Christian woman lives one life.

- A superwoman is known for her accomplishments, while a Christian woman is known through Jesus.

In this era, an extreme multitude of daily tasks has yielded a frenzy of busy women. Being an active Christian can add more to your plate. As a result, you may wonder how you can find balance in your life. I wrote The Balance Finder to help Christian women filter the clutter of life and uncover the essence of God’s perspective on balance. It speaks specifically to the needs of the following:

- Single-parents with natural or adopted children

- Women planning to start a family

- Women who marry with an instant family

- Women who care for someone else’s children

Even if you do not fit into any of those areas, if you are a busy woman, The Balance Finder can still offer much needed advice and be a blessing to you. Why? It will help you learn to prioritize and focus on what is important and can be the solution to fine-tuning your life.

What qualifies me to write this book? Life experience. At one point, my life was out of balance to the extent that normalcy was a foreign word. I juggled work, appointments, sporting events, church activities, household duties, homework, and many other tasks. Unfortunately, my health and personal appearance began to suffer. I gained over fifty pounds, my hair fell out, and my self-esteem dropped drastically. Eventually, it affected my financial situation, which hindered my quality of life.

At this time in my life, something good happened I married a great man of God. While he has been a blessing to me, things were difficult at first as he also went through some learning and growing experiences. The marriage was a joy, yet with such imbalance, it added more to my already full plate. During this storm, I received unsolicited advice from a variety of sources. The advice was somewhat helpful, yet the problems continued to persist. Human logic is pointless when you need supernatural intervention!

What did I do to make a change? I literally called on Jesus for clarity and new direction. He answered my prayer and guided me in changing my thought patterns. As I aligned my life according to spiritual principles, I documented the information that helped me along the way. On my journey to find balance, I birthed this book. As a result, you are now holding The Balance Finder.

The Lord gave me the framework for The Balance Finder in a dream. He told me the book was to contain four chapters. When I awoke, I began to study the significance of the number four. In the Bible, four represents reign[i]. On the fourth day, God created the sun, moon, and stars to reign over the day and night and divide the light from darkness (Genesis 1:16-19). The prophet Ezekiel spoke a directive from God to the four winds, commanding them to breathe on dry bones to make them live (Genesis 37:1-14).

The Lord continued to speak to me as I meditated on his word. He revealed that in the context of The Balance Finder, dry bones represent the dry places in our lives that cause us to be out of balance. For this reason, each chapter is indicative of the four winds, from the four corners of the earth, breathing divine wisdom on my readers.

The tools and strategies in this book will empower women to reign over the circumstances of their lives, bringing dry bones back to life and in proper balance. While reading this book, I would like you to do three things.

1. Focus on meeting the Lord in your situation.

2. Avoid dwelling on guilt, shame, and blame.

3. Keep your mind on the need for balance versus the challenges or mistakes of the men in your life.

By doing these three things, you will gain a new perspective on God’s original intent and design patterned specifically for you. May the Lord bless you and give you divine insight on your quest to find life balance.
